Mid-February ECA Group organized a seminar dedicated to civil applications of ECA Group UGVs. Thanks to their small sizes, UGVs are to increase the line of sight, carry out observation and inspection in remote places. UGVs are also to limit human exposure to chemical and radiological pollution. Associated to specific sensors, they can be used for detection, mark safe area and keep out from toxic environment.
In the industry sector, the mini UGV COBRA Mk2 and Lightweight UGV CAMELEON can both be used for inspection in remote places thanks to their long range and all terrain capacities (earth, sand, grass, concrete, asphalt, mud, etc.). Equipped with various communication systems, such as long range antenna and optical fiber, UGVs can be operated through walls and around corners. This ensures a high quality transmission without interference. As a result, ECA Group’s UGV can perform various survey missions in underground, tunnel and aisles. The COBRA Mk2, thanks to its small size, is ideally suited to operations in penstock, pipeline, under low vehicles and narrow passages inaccessible for larger UGV.
Aside inspections, the CAMELEON can be used for indoor mapping. The integrated system allows to draw map inside building without any human intervention thanks to a scan laser measurement sensor.
Initially developed for military needs, especially for CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) purposes, ECA Group UGVs can perform threat identifications in the civil sector. Equipped with specific sensors or gas and liquid sampling systems, the COBRA MK2 and the CAMELEON can detect any chemical and radiological pollution. Their long range capacities allow the operator to stay at a safe distance, limit human exposure and minimize risks. All data collected are displayed in real-time on the Command & Control system, which extends the situational awareness. It allows to deploy a rapid-response capability in case of emergency.
The quick deployment and ease of use of our UGVs allow to intervene after a disaster and perform a post-crisis monitoring. As a result, UGVs are ideally suited to risk mapping. Thus, the CAMELEON can be equipped with an explosimeter, so as to evaluate explosion risks.
Easy to carry, lightweight, rugged, modular, suited for day and night uses, ECA Group UGVs offer many advantages in the civil sector and represent a cost-effective solution that allows to increase the frequency of inspection and prevent human exposures.
