ECA GROUP’s Cospas-Sarsat Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) shows its benefits in test flight
99 percent of all aeronautical accidents involve general aviation (civilian flight operations with the exception of passenger airlines). These small and often private planes and helicopters usually use Personal Locator beacons (PLBs) to send out an emergency signal when needed.
To improve general aviation safety and rescue capacities, a consortium of 7 companies, driven by Thales Aerospace, has launched the project GRIMASSE for the worldwide adoption of a safe solution based on the European Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).
As GRIMASSE project members, ECA GROUP and PildoLabs have successfully tested the use of ECA GROUP’s emergency beacons ELT DT (Distress Tracking) in general aviation (see PildoLabs’ video). In particular, the built-in Return Link Message and 2-ways-messaging that allow rescue operators to communicate via short messages with the people in distress, has proven its great functionality.
The benefits of ECA GROUP’s ELT DT in general aviation are clear: greater aviation safety, performance, and reliability.
With more than 30.000 deliveries, ECA Group is the worldwide leader in the production of safety beacons for civil aviation. Today, more than 350 airlines and the major aircraft manufacturers are equipped with ECA Group’s innovative ELTs designs.
