ECA Group successully demonstrated its UMIS unmanned integrated system for mine warfare in the Arsenal de Toulon, during the "Université d'été de la Défense"
Last week was taking place in the Toulon harbor, the 15th "Université d'été de la Défense".
This event is considered as the annual event allowing to set up a dialogue between authorities, defence industrialists and military authorities. Each year its goal is to instaure a "Defense community", gathering all actors to exchange opinions, propose solutions and by creating new opportunities for cooperation in the field of Defence.
On this occasion ECA Group had the opportunity to demonstrate its capabilities in naval robotics by showcasing its solutions dedicated to underwater mine warfare.
Presenting the Unmanned Mine Counter Measure Integrated System (UMIS) to the audience, ECA Group successfully demonstrated its suite twice during the afternoon.
This ECA Group system provides a fast and cost effective solution while keeping crews out of danger to MCM operations, from initial seabed survey, target detection and classification down to final identification and neutralization.
The UMIS system is composed of and Autonomous Surface Vehicle (USV), the INSPECTOR MK2 able to deploy and recover automatically a set of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), using a LARS system. The whole system is operated from a single multifunction console integrating the mission management software suite.
Among the range of ECA Group AUVs are the A9-M and A18-M enable to proceed to Mine Like Objects detection and classification tasks. It can be easily completed with the deployment of a Seascan, a light weight self-propelled ROV dedicated to inspection missions
To complete the system, comes the Mine disposal vehicles (EMDS) K-STER, which is fitted with a shape charge in a tiltable head to aim at the target to dispose of.
