NATO experts and ECA Group discuss the perspectives of AUVs in the Mine Warfare activity

In a context in which the Mine Hunting Vessels legacy fleets will soon reach its end of life, unmanned maritime systems will undoubtedly shape the future. The NATO experts at the occasion of the 2nd workshop of the COE-CSW offered the opportunity to industrials and scientifics to exchange about the new challenges of this transition phase.

In September 2016,  ECA Group attended the 2nd workshop organized by the Center Of Excellence in Confined and Shallow Waters (COE-CSW), an accredited NATO center based in Kiel, to discuss the use of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Naval Mine Warfare. It is no doubt that AUV and more generally Unmanned Maritime Systems will shape the future of the Naval Mine Counter Measures.

This meeting provided the chance to explore the transition phase between the traditional mine hunting solution conducted from a dedicated vessel operating within the mine field and the Unmanned Mine Counter Measure solutions, keeping the man outside the minefields. It was a fruitful meeting giving the opportunity to industrial leaders to exchange in a positive and constructive approach on these subjects with several major navies and universities.
